Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will visit the United States for the United Nations General Assembly, which will convene this month.

This was confirmed by the president’s acting spokesman, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, at a press conference in Kabul.

The General Debate of the 72nd session of the U.N. General Assembly will open in the organization’s headquarters in New York on September 19. Ghani will be among many state and government leaders to deliver speech the meeting.

Last year, Second Vice President Sarwar Danish represented Afghanistan in the meeting while a year earlier Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah attended the meeting.

This will be Ghani’s first visit to the U.S. after President Donald Trump announced his administration’s strategy on Afghanistan last month.
